Generally speaking, the successful network marketer is the confident network marketer — the two go hand-in-hand.
It will come as no surprise to you that if you lack confidence in your business, your results will suffer. Your lack of confidence comes through in the tone of your voice, the posture with which you carry yourself, and is always a part of the overall “vibe” you give people you are speaking with.
In order to make money as a network marketer, you absolutely have to be confident. Here are 3 essential tips to help you become a more confident network marketer.
A Definitive Mindset.
The first tip to understand about confidence is that it is a mindset … and that developing a strong successful mindset takes practice. In fact for most people, it takes a lot of practice.
Confidence stems from belief in what you have to offer and a belief in the results that will come from your efforts. So, first and foremost, you must decide that you are going to make money and your must decide that you are going to be successful.
Once you have truly decided, you begin to look past where you are and focus instead on where you are going. And when you do that, you will find yourself taking deliberate action to move you closer to where you are going.
Specialized knowledge
The second tip is this: specialized knowledge builds confidence. Success in business, especially as an entrepreneur, is about the application of specialized knowledge.
If that statement seems odd to you, consider this question: who earns more in his practice, the general practitioner or the specialist? It is always the specialist.
Here’s another often overlooked fact: your company will only have enduring success if it offers a relevant product people want to buy and will continue to repurchase. This is important to know because one of the simplest secrets to success in network marketing is to become a student of your product. Study it and learn as much as you can about it. The more you do so, the easier it will become for you to talk about and the more steadfast your belief will become.
Consistent Action
Action mitigates fear, so the final tip to remember is to take consistent action. When you are in fear, you focus on what is going wrong or isn’t working and it takes away your power. But when you remind yourself of the decisions you’ve already made (to be successful) and you have become a student of your craft (your product), you find it easier to take action.
The more consistently you take action, the more momentum you create for yourself and the greater your confidence becomes. Action is empowering and when you are in consistent action your sense empowerment grows by leaps and bounds. Which enhances your belief, which in turn, enhances your confidence.
By following these tips, you have in your hands a very simple formula which will empower you into being a confident — and successful — network marketer.

If you are being a fearful business owner who is unwilling to invest in the very products you represent, or is unwilling to invest in and grow your business, why would you expect others to purchase those products from you and freely invest in themselves? And why would they be willing to invest in you?
The people who get started with you in your business are people who relate to you in some way. That’s the basis of relationship marketing, which is what network marketing ultimately is. They will tend to follow your lead and do what you do. Consequently, the example you set matters immensely.
If you are finding that you are attracting the “wrong” type of people into your business, use that as your clue to examine closely who you are actually being. Make the necessary corrections and set the example you expect others in your organization to emulate. Become a “product of the product” which is ultimately the essence of successful network marketing. Understand that the more you invest in yourself, the more others will invest in you.

What I like to do is take those components and visualize them within a three piece pyramid. Mindset is the foundational layer of the pyramid. Skillset sits on top of Mindset. And action is the top layer, sitting upon Skillset. The pyramid itself represents your business success, or your results.
I like to illustrate business success in this way because it emphasizes the idea that your mindset is a prerequisite to building a successful business. Without a healthy, successful mindset, you have a weak foundation that will crumble at the first sign of adversity.
When you’re focused on what’s wrong, that’s your clue
When you catch yourself asking questions such as those we led off this article with, that’s your clue that you have work to do on your mindset. Truth be told, you will always have work to do on your mindset because you can always improve. But make no mistake, if you are stuck wondering what you’re doing wrong and why it isn’t working, you have a mindset problem.
As soon as you catch yourself asking questions where you are looking for what’s wrong, stop. Instead try looking for what is working. Ask “what am I doing right?” “What is working for me right now?”
And as you identify the things that are working, you begin to establish a mental foundation of success you can build upon. You will naturally begin to be inspired with additional ideas and thoughts that will serve you to strengthen your business. In short, you will begin to strengthen your mindset.
The most successful people in this industry have an unshakeable mindset which serves as the foundation of everything they do. They set doubt, fear and worry aside and remain focused on building upon what is right with their business and what is working. That’s the “secret” to creating a successful business mindset and that’s the basic, foundational secret to building a successful network marketing business.

With very rare exceptions, your statement that “I can’t afford this” is a mindset issue and not a financial issue at all.
If you don’t believe me, play along with me for a couple of minutes, and answer these questions.
- Do you smoke? If the answer is “yes”, how many packs a day do you smoke? Depending on where you live, a pack of cigarettes a day costs in the range of $9 to $10. So a pack a day smoker is spending as much as $250 to $300 per month for the privilege.
- Do you drink alcohol? How much do you spend per month on beer, wine or spirits? If you’re a casual drinker, it’s not uncommon to be spend upwards of $100 per month or more, even as a casual drinker.
- Do you gamble? Depending on where you live and whether gambling is legal, do you like to get out to play the slot machines, video terminals, keno, blackjack or what have you? Do you make a holiday out of it and hit a gambling destination. It’s not uncommon for the average person to spend $100 to $200 per month or more on gambling as a form of entertainment.
- Do you play the lottery? $10 per week playing the lottery is $520 per year.
- Do you like to buy a coffee at Starbucks every day? There’s another $15 per week or more ($780 per year)
These five points are examples, but if they all apply to you, then you are spending as much as $7000 or more per year on this simple list of discretionary items. How many more similar examples can you come up with?
So now let me ask you this question: How do any of the above expenditures assist you in building a better life and move you closer to living the life of your dreams? The answer of course is that they don’t.
One of the truths I’ve learned in my self-improvement journey and in the course of building my home business is that the only person who can change me is me. Similarly, the only person who can change you is you. You will only be willing to change dependent upon the strength of the vision you have for yourself and the degree to which you really want it.
So the question for you becomes, are you willing to reprioritize things in your life to allow you to begin investing in yourself and your future? How important is it for you really? Do you believe strongly enough in your vision for yourself and your better future that you’re willing to change around some of your priorities.
The answer to that question will be evident in your actions.
